Dutch native songwriter ferdinant. started releasing his EP ‘Airplanes’ with it’s title track in November ’20. Freshly signed with rising indie Humming Records, home of Fil Bo Riva, Ätna and more fresh artists, the melancholic ode to friendship landed him 7 Spotify New Music Fridays around Europe and now he is showing a more extroverted facet on the catchy, at parts hymnic single ‘Soothe’.

“I initially wrote this about a friend I did wrong, and wanted to put into words the feeling it gave me, and the feeling we should be sharing instead of what happened. Friendship is gold, you have to be careful, but things do go wrong. And then the only right thing to do for me is to own up to it and go and fucking fix it. I did by the way if you’re wondering, thick as thieves, and that just means the world to me.”

In the music video, the singer had to jump into ice cold water from 5m height. It  symbolizes the inevitable struggle it sometimes takes to keep a good friendship alive. It was directed by ferdinant.’s creative director Sarah Knüpfer and shot by trusted DOP Henk Otte on 16mm, giving it the cinematic details.

‘Be my brother, be another one to soothe me like no other.’

The pop-leaning track was written solely on an old acoustic guitar by ferdinant. Producer duo Kilian & Jo, usually known for their work on major Hip Hop artists like Majan, managed to find the energy within and create a stirring, at parts anthemic single reminding of new acts like Dermot Kennedy on the one hand. But the courage for grandeur in instrumentation and arrangement results from classic influences like U2 or Coldplay.
