JK was first scouted in 2012 on the street in Hamburg, signing with an agency by the time he was 15! Now at the age of 20 he has finished school and is moving from his home town Kiel to Hamburg to focus on his study at BiTS University completing a degree in Business Psychology as well as focusing on his career as a model.
Johann, thank you so much for taking the time to sit with us today! Dude – can you tell us a little about yourself? What are your interests?
I´m a sporty guy. I like to do a lot of fitness training and sailing. I also like to cook and eat of course.
Wow sailing what a cool hobby! What do you love about sailing?
It´s a family-thing. My whole family is just obsessed with the sport. My two older brothers are professional sailors and we have been doing it for as long as I can remember. I´d say because there are so many different factors to it. There´s you, the boat, the wind, the waves, the racecourse and your opponents. It is a very special sport.
Tell us about where you are from;
It´s a small town in the north of Germany called Strande. It´s always rainy but also right by the Baltic sea…It was a really great place to grow up.
What inspired you to become a model?
Why wouldn’t you give it at try? I didn’t think too much about it.
So far in your career as a model, what has been your favorite modelling job and why?
Obviously, I haven’t done much to date but I hope there´s more to come for me. I really enjoyed the shoot with Paul James though. He’s Crazy !
What other jobs do you have apart form modelling?
I used to sail on a professional level. Unlike a lot of my friends who played football or just went out drinking on the weekends, I used to spend most of my time training on the water and in the gym. I had a few good results like German Champion or Vice European Champion U17 and was sailing for the national sailing team. This year I took part in the Youth America´s Cup in Bermuda, which was pretty cool experience for me as well. Nevertheless, I decided to temporarily put a hold on sailing and do something else in the next years.
What is your favourite city or place in the world and why?
The Lake Garda is one of my favorite places. The food, the people and the water are just fantastic. Places by the sea are my thing, basically.
What is your favourite clothing brand?
I usually wear a lot from Weekday but I really love Sandro clothes. I´m into simple and mostly classic pieces. You´ll probably never see me wear a colorful tracksuit in my free time.
What is the most important thing to you that you can’t live without?
Music and Sport. What´s life without some aching muscles and Frank Ocean? I´m following a strict training routine and it´s a good thing to see myself becoming better and better at things, I like the progress.
What is your most treasured possession?
My rusty 1995 Mercedes that´s falling apart while I´m driving it. It´s dark red and used to be my granddad´s car. But ever since he died 11 years ago, no one was using it. So, I tried to restore it with a friend. I must have done a shitty job because the rust is getting worse and worse!!! But it’s never let me down so far!
What characteristics do you value most in people?
Honesty and reliability is important to me. But also the harmony. It´s all about the vibes in the end, isn’t it?
Do you think that humans as a species have gotten better through the generations or worse? Why?
Hard to tell, really. I think we´re slowly coming to our senses. Who elected Trump though!?
What is your all-time favourite TV show or movie?
Californication is my favorite show for sure. I know it inside out haha.
And I really dig the Tarantino Movies. No Fast & Furious for me thanks!
Knowing I could have done something better…Or disappointing my family and friends.
Who is the most important person or influencer in your life, and why?
I am the most important person in my life! I´m my own man in the end.
Why do you think society places such a high value on beauty?
Maybe because it´s such a big industry and people are being more and more rated on their appearance. Everything seems to be getting more superficial.
Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
Actually, I don’t like to be a dominant person. I like to take responsibility and be important but not be the alpha dog at the same time. I think a leading person shouldn’t be the most dominant.
Which historical figure would you most like to be ?
Oskar Schindler and Muhammad Ali are truly inspirational figures in my opinion.
Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
I‘m really spontaneous and I actually struggle to get along with people who are not.
Three words others probably use to describe you?
Ambitious, confident, and laidback. But if you asked my friends they’d tell you I’m always late!
The perfect casual outfit consists of?
Dark grey jeans, a wide hoodie and a simple coat on top for fall. I´m all about keeping it simple and dark … And sneakers of course.
How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
I normally like to go out with my friends. Sometime I like to stay in and cook with friends too. Not really a party animal at the moment.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Accidently getting run over by a car when I was 17. I broke my neck and almost lost an ear…I spent over a month in hospital. It was a nice summer though. I was riding my bike to school and didn’t see the car coming crossing the street. NEVER wear headphones while on the bike, people. Especially if you´re not wearing a helmet. The car hit me at about 60km/h, I bounced off the windshield and slid over the road, damaging my arms, face and hands. It took me almost 6 months to recover. I got off really lucky that day and it makes me value the importance of health, which many of us just take for granted.
If you had to teach a subject, what would it be? And why?
Definitely sports! I´m a gym-rat and I suppose I´d be pretty good at it considering my background as an athlete.
What is the most important thing you have learnt from your parents?
Probably that hard work will always pay off in the end, and that if you really want something, nothing can stand in your way. I know it sounds like a cliché, but my father always says it and I do believe in it.
When do you find yourself singing//dancing?
Each time I´m in a car on my own or with my friends – which is very often :) I can’t help it. You´re welcome to check out my playlist by the way.—> SPOTIFY
And finally….What do you believe makes a successful life?
Being healthy, being proud of who you are and being able to love others, yourself and the life you live. That´s deep.
Thank you so much for sitting with us Johan, we really enjoyed doing this interview with you! We are looking forward to what’s coming up for you!
